Underdog Williams comes home

AFTER her fantastic performance at the 2015 World Championships in the women's 100 metres hurdles where she struck gold for Jamaica, Danielle Williams will compete in front of her own home crowd for the first time.

Williams will take on a strong field which include the likes of Sharika Nelvis, Briana Rollins, Dawn Harper, and Tiffany Porter.

All those athletes were ranked higher than Williams going into the Championships last year.

When she lines up in the race tomorrow, once again she will be the underdog, but Williams is not fazed by that tag despite this being her first outdoor appearance in the event.

"I am just going out there to execute well and hope I do a good time," said Williams, who has no butterflies competing against the high quality field.

"I am very excited. I just want to go out there and do my best. I know I will be competing against some of the best," she added.

Williams was finally asked if she was under any pressure being the World champion competing before her home fans.

"No I am not under any pressure I am just going out there to have fun and when you are competing against the best if you want to be the best you have to beat them," she said.

A year ago Stowers ran a world leading and meet record of 12.39 seconds, while Williams was in second in 12.77 seconds with sister Shermaine finishing third in 12.89 seconds.
