Bydgoszcz. Poland:

Jamaica has never won the women's 400 metres at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Junior Championships but this could all change this week.

The country could create history in Poland with our two representatives Junelle Bromfield and Tiffany James.

Both were ranked at two and four coming into the Championships and with the entries now out for the Championships they are the top seeds going into the event which will run off tomorrow morning 7:10 Jamaica time with the preliminary round.

Number one seed on the IAAF top list, Salawa Ed Naser of Bahrain, with a best of 51.43 seconds and the United States' Sydney McLaughlin (51.87) and Aliyah Abrahams are not competing here.

McLaughlin bypassed the meet for the Olympic Games after her third place finish in the women's 400m.

Bromfield with her season's best 51.74 and James with 52.06 seconds are number one and two and both could finish among the medals.

Nigeria's Yinka Ajayi with a best of 52.65 seconds and Cuba's Roxana Gomez, last year's World Youth finalist with a season's best of 52.46 seconds seem to be their main challengers.

Both James, the 2013 World Youth bronze medallist, and Bromfield could play major roles in helping Jamaica to put an end to the United States dominance in the 4x 400 metres relays.

Indeed history is in the making here.
