Ten-man Portmore humble Arnett
Ten-man Portmore United climbed above Humble Lion in the Red Stripe Premier League standings to fourth yesterday after a convincing 3-1 win over the stagnant Arnett Gardens at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
Goals from Malique Foster (35th), Cleon Pryce (42nd) and a spectacular free-kick from Michael Binns (69th) stretched the Lenworth Hyde-coached team's unbeaten run to seven games. Leon Strickland scored Arnett's lone goal after 39 minutes.
"It is a good result ... throughout the 90 minutes our presence was felt," said winning coach Hyde. "It's good to score three goals, it's a long while we haven't scored three in a game," he added.
Portmore did all the early running, with Arnett struggling to keep pace with Pryce, Ewan Grandison, Tremaine Stewart and Ricardo Morris.
The only blot on Portmore's win was the sending-off of Damano Solomon for violent play in time added on.
UWI FC stayed third on 39 points after playing to a 1-1 draw with Humble Lion who slipped to fifth on 36 points. Reno (25) remain in seventh despite losing 1-0 to Jamalco (23) who climbed one place to eighth, while Maverley-Hughenden (20) slipped one place to ninth after their 1-1 tie with last place Boys' Town (16). The late game, Waterhouse vs Harbour View, ended 0-0. Harbour View (21) are still in 10th with Waterhouse (19) just below them in 11th.
