Under-21 Sunshine Girls ready for World Youth medal

Jamaica's Under-21 coach Janet Guy is extremely confident that the junior Sunshine Girls will win a medal at next month's Under-21 World Youth Cup in Botswana.

The vastly experienced Guy, believes it will be a second time lucky for her, having coached the junior Sunshine Girls to their best ever finish at the Under-21 championships, when they won a silver in Wales 2000.

"I see the effort that they are making. I look at the section that they have placed in at the championships and I know that we will get out of that section. After that, we will have our plans ready to move on to the next sections," Guy said.

The Under-21s won a bronze medal at the Championships in Glasgow four-years ago, and Guy said once they put in the work, then anything is possible.

"I am telling you that the girls will do well because the girls have been prepared. We have put them in camp for two weeks to ensure that whatever that they don't have or what we didn't compete in during the programme they will be able to complete it now," she said.

Guy added that the two-week camp also helped the girls bond and so she is expecting great things from them.

"They have become very confident if you speak to them and they are much better than they thought and so I think that they are going to give a good account of themselves," Guy said.

Conrad Parkes will be Guy's assistant. The team is scheduled to leave the island on July 3.
