Davis says he is finished with Contender series

Tsetsi 'Lights Out' Davis says that he is "done" with the Wray and Nephew Contender Series after his semi-final defeat to number-one ranked Jamaican Sakima Mullings on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old lost on a split decision. He and some of his fans believe the fight was judged incorrectly, and Davis said that the fact that he had less time to prepare than Mullings also made his task harder.

Davis's previous bout, against Ryan Young, took place only two weeks before the semi-final, while Mullings had a further two weeks to prepare as his quarter-final match against Larone White was one month ago. This weighed enough on Davis's mind to lead him to the decision to never enter the competition again.

"It pressuring. It pressuring! It pressuring!" David told STAR Sports.

"I leave work, I fight Wednesday night. Thursday morning I have to go to work. Friday I have to work, Saturday I have to work, Sunday I have to work, then I have to train. The body wear and tear, the body tired, so if dem did give me, all say, a next week fi fight [i would be OK]," he added.

"Well, mi fight two Canadians (Dave Leblond and Young), and if dem want a rematch, I will take it but definitely, I done wid Contender. Seriously to God, I done wid it, and I glad how I reach dis far," he said.

In May, Davis had told The Gleaner that decisions made by local boxing authorities were never in his favour because he had no close friendships with officials.

"I don't have that relationship (like other boxers) where me have friends and go round and beg. Maybe because me is a one-away guy," he said then.

Following Wednesday night's loss, he said that he did not feel that he should have lost the fight.

"I think the decision shoulda go my way, but I don't blame anyone, I just come to fight. Is not me, a di judge. I just come prepared, and that's it. A lot of rounds, from start to finish, I'm just working. I not gonna say all seven, but I win the majority of the rounds. Good fight. Thumbs up to Mullings. I wish him all the best through the final."
