daCosta Cup takes spotlight at STETHS

The quarter-final round of the 2017 ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup continues this afternoon with a Group One double header at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS).

At 2 p.m., St James High oppose Garvey Maceo High before Clarendon College face Spot Valley High at 4 p.m.

The Theodore Whitmore-coached St James High will be seeking their second win in the quarter-final round following a 2-0 victory over Spot Valley last Saturday.

Coach Whitmore is aware that St James will have to get by Garvey Maceo if they are to make it to the semi-finals and told STAR Sports after Saturday's win that he will be taking it game by game.

Garvey Maceo are looking to bounce back from a 3-1 loss to group leaders Clarendon College at the Juici Beef Complex last Saturday.

The match between Clarendon College, who have a perfect record in this year's competition, and Spot Valley should be interesting.

Spot Valley surprised Clarendon 2-1 last season and will be looking to repeat history and keep themselves afloat in this year's competition. They have a tough task to advance to the semi-finals as they have to win their next two games and hope other results are in their favour.

Coach Gregory Palmer believes with some motivation his boys can pull off a win this afternoon and get back in the race for the semi-finals.

"We just have to motivate the players, try to win the other two games and see where we go from there," coach Palmer said after going down to St James High last Saturday.
