Lawrence: We need to be tougher

A frustrated Aaron ‘Wild Boy’ Lawrence, coach of newly promoted Sandals South Coast, has expressed his disappointment in the team’s performance in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) so far after going down to 2-1 to fellow strugglers Waterhouse at the Frome Sports Complex yesterday.

Sandals remain winless at the foot of the table and coach Lawrence believes they lack aggression.

“We expected it to be tough but the players are playing too soft and too flat, we need to be more aggressive. The league is easy and we make it harder than anything else. We scored first and we let them back into the game so we need to be tougher,” said Lawrence.

“Our performance was poor, poor we haven’t won a game, haven’t done anything to go further in the competition. We have not woken up as yet .. it's like we’re just here enjoying the moment to say we are in the premier league,” he added.

Curtis Hamilton, the Waterhouse coach, said the performance was not the best he is grateful for the result as it will boost the confidence of the players going forward.

“It wasn’t a great game but we fought well and the result was one we needed as it will keep us at least three points adrift of the bottom of the table,"said Hamilton.

The two teams started slowly but Sandals took the lead in the 27th minute from a low strike off the boot of defender Corey Rodriquez. They held the lead for just six minutes before Waterhouse's Keno Simpson headed home a brilliant cross from Mark Miller to even the score at 1-1.

  Waterhouse sealed their first win of the season when Tremaine Stewart slammed a free kick into the back of the net in the 54th minute.
