Dinthill crumble in 1-4 loss

CLARENDON College technical director Lenny 'Teacha' Hyde yesterday praised the performance of defender Kimani McIntyre, who was instrumental in their 4-1 extra-time Ben Francis Cup knockout win over Dinthill Technical at the STETHS Sports Complex in St Elizabeth.

McIntyre kept Dinthill's leading goalscorer and point man Kaheem Parris at bay for Clarendon to snatch the first rural schoolboy title, extending their one hundred per cent win record.

Hyde said Clarendon will now find it hard to select their squad after McIntyre got into the team for suspended Sanjay Williams.

"I think he played an excellent game today in shutting down Parris and that was the plan. Our overall performance was excellent also and the boys have been doing it all season," said Hyde, also applauding the overall team performance, crediting their brilliant possession and positional system of play.

"We have put a system in place and players believe in it so that's what worked today," said Hyde, who was elated to win his first schoolboy title as a coach after winning as a player in 1977 with Clarendon.

Dinthill coach Curtis Hamilton said his team stopped playing after the goal, held on up to extra-time but lost discipline altogether. He also said his main man, Parris, was just off as he didn't bring his passing game.

"I think in the first half we literally stopped playing. We weren't making the transition quickly enough so at times we lost shape. Throughout the game we both had chances, but it is just unfortunate for us to lose in stoppage time, conceding three goals," said Hamilton.

Dinthill were out of the blocks early with the only real chance when Parris' blocked shot fell to Shamari Davis in the fourth minute. They kept this slender margin to the break but lost concentration 10 minutes into the second half, gifting Nicque Daley his 19th goal of the season.

Dinthill managed to keep the score level throughout regular time but lost their heads, allowing Demario Phillips (94th) and Lamar Walker (101st and 110th) to give CC victory.
