Lawrence relieved by first RSPL win

Aaron 'Wild Boy' Lawrence, coach of Sandals South Coast FC, says he is happy after winning his first game in the Red Stripe Premier League after Sunday's 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Boys' Town FC at Frome Sports Complex.

"I'm delighted to win my first game in the Premier League especially to see the players go out there and play hard not giving Boys' Town any chance to take any point off us," said Lawrence, a former national goalkeeper.

Sandals, who are level on six points with 11th-place Boys' Town, still remain at the foot of the table.

Lawrence believes this victory can turn things around, noting that his team looked the best they have all season, especially in the second half, and thinks the scoreline should have been greater.

"At half-time we talked to the players, reassuring them that they were in the game and doing well. In the second half, we got the desired result that we wanted as we were more aggressive towards goal. Boy's Town should have gone home about three goals behind with the number of chances that went begging," said Lawrence.

After a flat first-half from both teams, the game came to life after the break when Sandals stepped on the accelerator, but missed 11 clear-cut chances before finding the back of the net.

However, with one minute to go Obrian Bent handed Sandals their first win with a curling shot from the top of the penalty box beating goalkeeper Mihkail Harrison in the second minute of stoppage time.

In the other game out west, Montego Bay United held on to an early goal from Dino Williams for a 1-0 victory, surviving a scare from a dominant Waterhouse in the late game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

The visitors who are looking to turn their season around under the guidance of Donavon Duckie, who after the game said he is impressed by what his boys were able to do in just a week despite the loss.

"Our performance was impressive, there are so many good things to take from the game. In one week I'm amazed by a number of things they have adapted when we start to win games, we will be a force to reckon with," said Duckie.
