Shavar Thomas, coach of Red Stripe Premier League champions Portmore United, said he is very confident that they can retain their title this season.

Portmore, who defeated Waterhouse FC in last season's final to win the title, have done well in their preseason preparations, this after they reached the quarter-finals of Scotiabank Concacaf League in July.

"We had some quality international games under our belt, so we are going into the start of the season with that in mind, and the confidence in the work that we have put in so far," said Thomas.

"We have added quality to the team, with some youth and we believe that can take us back to the pinnacle," he said.

FEELING GOOD

"After finishing the season being the champions of the RSPL and then going into the Concacaf League and making it to the quarter-finals, we are feeling good about ourselves," Thomas said.

"We are looking at this season one game at time and this is the focus right now," he said.

Thomas pointed out that they will not be taking teams for granted and therefore they will be going out to win every game.

"Other than Arnett Gardens, we are one of the first teams to start preseason training and this has gone excellently for us," Thomas said.

"It basically comes down to man management and watching the minutes and paying attention to details. Every little thing counts and at the same time, we have these players who have done it already, so we will be taking it one game at a time all the way up," he said.
