Best is yet to come - Bender

Camperdown's head coach Christopher Bender says his team has been moving from strength to strength in this year's ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition.

Camperdown, who last won the competition in 1982, recorded their third straight victory of the season with an easy 2-0 win over hosts Norman Manley at Maxfield Park, yesterday.

Shaun Daley (50th) and Shaqueil Bradford (55th) were scorers for Camperdown, who reached the quarter-finals of last year's competition.

Bender said that the school has assembled a very rounded team this season and is aiming to go deep in the competition.

"I am feeling satisfied with how we played, but we could have scored more goals, but it is a process," said Bender.

We continue to play well and are improving. This game is one of our better performances in the competition," he said.

"We have not started our full complement of players as yet, but will be adding them as the season progresses. We are gradually improving and it is a good sign that each game, the team is getting better," Bender added.

Daley gave Camperdown the lead when he latched on to a loose ball in the 18-yard box to beat the Manley goalkeeper. Bradford then doubled his tally with a spectacular 30-yard effort, which went like a rocket past the goalkeeper.

Norman Manley's coach, Paul Edwards, said his players tried their best.

"This is a pretty young team and as a matter of fact, it's only three players on this team that played in the Manning Cup before, so we are pleased with the effort," said Edwards.

"They are young, so they are going to bounce back because we just made some simple mistakes in the second half and that is what cost us the game," he said.
