'No hard feelings' - Bittersweet victory for 'Bushy' Beckford over former club
It was a bittersweet moment for striker Kemar 'Bushy' Beckford, who scored the lone goal of the game to help Mount Pleasant to a 1-0 victory over his former club Waterhouse in the Red Stripe Premier League competition at Drax Hall Stadium last Sunday.
He told STAR Sports that he was very tense before the game because he had a lot love for Waterhouse and its players.
"When I knew I was going to play against Waterhouse, I was a bit nervous because I respect the club and I am friends with all the players over there," said Beckford.
"I am sorry that I had to do this to Waterhouse, but it is my job, and so I am feeling good that I was able to give my side the victory," he said.
The stoutly built Beckford, who netted 12 goals last season, added that he was aiming to double that tally this season.
"My aim for the season is to score 26 goals because for the past couple of seasons, I have (got started) in the second round of the season because I was always overseas. So this is the first I am starting the Premier League (at this stage), so it is great feeling," Beckford said.
Sunday's win was Mount Pleasant's second victory from two games this season, and Beckford said that the team has been playing well so far.
"We have aims, and the coach said that we have to be serious. I am serious because I am looking for an overseas contract and national call-up, so I am just putting in the hard work, and, hopefully, everything will work out," Beckford said.
"We are aiming to win 11 games in this round, and we are going to continue to put in the work and stay focused," he said.
Beckford represented Waterhouse for three seasons before transferring to Mount Pleasant in the summer.c
