The Sunshine Girls will be looking to clinch their Three-Test Lasco Series against England tomorrow, this after their impressive 55-43 victory in the opening game at the National Indoor Sports Centre last night.

Captain and ace shooter Jhaniele Fowler was at her accurate best, netting 34 goals from 35 attempts. Shanice Beckford had 12 goals from 17 tries, while Shantal Slater scores seven from seven.

Helen Housby was the leading scorer for England with 27 goals from 35 attempts.

Sunshine Girls head coach Marvette Anderson was overjoyed with the victory.

"It was a good game but I thought it would have been a little closer as they are the Commonwealth Games champions," said Anderson.

"However, I believe that our ladies did well because we knew that we had it in us to win this game, and I am really proud that we did well," she said.

DOGGED DEFENSIVE DISPLAY

The Sunshine Girls dominated the first period and led 16-11. The local girls then produced a dogged defensive display in the second quarter to restrict England to just 10 goals, while scoring 19 goals to take a 35-21 lead at half time. However, the Sunshine Girls suffered a minor scare with seconds remaining in the second stanza after Fowler pulled up with a suspected knee injury and was replaced by Shantal Slater at the start of the third quarter.

However, despite the absence of Fowler, the Sunshine Girls still managed to maintain their 14-point, 46-32, lead at the end of the quarter. Fowler returned for the final quarter but the Sunshine Girls were outscored 11-9.
