Safe for now - MBU stand by Reynolds after poor RSPL start

Sandra Christie, director of administration and operations manager of Red Stripe Premier League outfit Montego Bay (MBU), said the club's hierarchy has full confidence in head coach Vassell Reynolds despite the team's current struggles.

MBU has had a poor showing in the league so far, which have resulted in them being in 10th place in the competition with a mere 10 points from 10 matches.

They have won just two games, drawn four, and lost four, including back-to-back losses following Sunday's 1-0 defeat to defending champions Portmore United at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

Christie told STAR Sports that the club is not pleased with the team's efforts so far but that they are confident that Reynolds can turn things around.

"The coaching has to be stepped up in terms of the delivery of what we want in terms of the level of game that Montego Bay is accustomed to, and so, we have to put in some serious work especially with our youngsters, as we move forward," said Christie.

"We have the confidence (in Reynolds), and we have charged him to do his job, and we have had meetings over the past couple of days, and I believe that the changes that he will have to effect have to be done in short order, but we are confident that he can do it," she said.

"We are going to back him as much as he needs to get that going in terms of correcting the areas that need to be corrected and move the team forward," Christie noted.

She added that the youngsters in the team have failed to spark this season and that this has also contributed to the team's struggles.

"We do recognise that we have a lot of youngsters who are pretty much inexperienced, and we are trying to work with them and work them into this level of football."
