Hyde dedicates first major schoolboy title to late coach

Lenworth 'Teacha' Hyde is still brimming with joy to have won his first major Schoolboy football title on Saturday when his Clarendon College beat Cornwall College 2-1 in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup final at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

But the former national player is dedicating the title to Winston Chung- Fah who coached the 1977 Clarendon College team to the school's first daCosta Cup title, a team Hyde was a part of.

Chung Fah passed away early last month at the age of 78.

"It is my first major schoolboy title and it means a lot to me. Last year I won the Ben Francis and this year the D'Cup, it's good for my career. When you coach this is what you want to achieve. I am very proud of what the guys did and is loving every moment of it," said Hyde.

"We dedicate this one to him (Chung- Fah) because you know he was there with us. I learned a lot from him and try to impart what I have learned to these guys and I think they went out and did an excellent job in the final."

THREE DIFFERENT TEAMS

Hyde, who up until last weekend, failed to enjoy the same success he has as a senior coach at the schoolboy level as he had only won the Ben Francis Cup. He is, to date, the only coach to have won the National Premier League with three different teams - Hazard United (now Portmore), Tivoli Gardens FC and Harbour View FC.

Hyde's 1977 Clarendon College team is regarded as one of the best schoolboy football team to have been assembled.

Nicque Daley (54th) and Lamar Walker (85th) were the goalscorers for Clarendon. Cornwall's only goal came from a Sanjay Williams own goal in the 74th minute.
