We will help you prepare for World Cup - MoBay mayor promises Reggae Girlz

Mayor of Montego Bay Homer Davis is promising that the municipal corporation will assist the Reggae Girlz in their preparation for the FIFA Women's World Cup next year.

"I am pleased to inform you that you are invited to return to this city for training and other preparatory events ahead of 2019 as the St James Municipal Corporation partners with you and the JFF (Jamaica Football Federation)," he said.

Davis gave the commitment after presenting the team with the key to the city of Montego Bay on Saturday.

The presentation was the start of four days of national celebration organised by the sport ministry in honour of the team's historic qualification. The presentation took place at the Civic Centre in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay.

"We have the Catherine Hall Stadium, which, although in need of some upgrading ... can accommodate training and, most importantly, practice matches for the Girlz to help them fine-tune their preparations to conquer the world next year," he said.

Sport Minister Olivia Grange expressed gratitude for the partnership and support of Davis and the councillors.

"It (qualifying) was a happy reward for years of blood, sweat and tears. It was the happy outcome after many hours of training, gruelling games, tough tackles and stunning goals. It was the result of talent, preparation and dedication," she added.
