UWI wary of red hot Cavalier

Andrew Peart, head coach of UWI FC, said they are very determined to maintain their three-match winning streak when they tackle leaders Cavalier on Monday night in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) competition. The match was originally set for the Stadium East field, however, with renovations to the synthetic track surrounding the field now ongoing, the game has been moved to the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex for an 8:35 p.m. kick-off.

UWI, who are seeking to secure a spot in the play-offs, are currently fourth in the standings on 36 points.

They are just two above seventh-place Arnett Gardens in the standings.

Peart toldSTAR Sports that Monday night's encounter is a very crucial contest for his side in their quest to cement a spot in the play-offs.

"It is fourth, but I think it is only two points above seventh place, and it is nothing comfortable yet," Peart said. "If we had drawn our game on Sunday, then we would have been in eighth place, but we won the game and moved up to fourth, so that showed that it is very close and we just have to continue winning games in the competition.

"It is going to be a difficult game against Cavalier because we are going up against a team who have conceded the fewest number of goals, and they are scoring frequently."

Peart added that Cavalier's 3-1 win over hosts Arnett Gardens has shown that they have a lot quality players and his team will have to play their best game to come out on top.

"They have scored three goals against Arnett Gardens away on Monday, so we expect the same competitiveness from them," he said.

"But we just have to focus on how to minimise their strengths and highlight their weakness, so that is our plan going into the game.

"However, we are getting better, but there is still room for improvement and we are still targeting that, so the next game we hope to improve on what we did in the previous game."
