Faulkland break Wadadah jinx

Gregory Palmer, coach of Faulkland FC, is pleased with his team’s performance on Saturday in their 3-1 win over Wadadah in the JFF Western Confederation Charley’s JB Rum Super League at the UDC field.

Faulkland’s goals came from Tremaine Robinson’s (45th) own-goal, Radcliff Dawkins (60th) and Peter Campbell (90th). Oshane Hunter (54th) scored for Wadadah.

Wadadah defeated Faulkland in both the Super League finals last season and this season’s mid-season finals, just over two weeks ago.

Palmer said that the win takes the monkey off their backs as they have always struggled with the Mount Salem-based Wadadah. Their only previous win came in 2017.

“The three points was definitely important. I told the players those three points were important if we are to get into the semi-finals, which is our first objective,” he said, noting that both teams were on the same points, with Faulkland only leading on goal difference.

So to pull away we needed the three points, and nothing but a win would suffice,” said Palmer. “The players were up for the task, as they worked extra hard in putting in a good performance.”

He noted that in six previous meetings “we have only won once, drew once and Wadadah winning the rest”.

Palmer outlined that despite their long-term objective to get to the Red Stripe Premier League, Faulkland is focused on taking it one step at a time.

“As I said before, the first objective is to get to the semi-finals. After getting there (semi-finals) we will take it from there. We are on course to get there, and then we have two games before the finals so let’s see,” he said. “The long- term objective is to get to the play-offs (Premier League), but we have to take it step by step and then try to get to the play-offs to get to the Premier League.”
