Losing key wickets cost us – Walton

Jamaica Tallawahs stand-in captain Chadwick Walton lamented on another poor showing in front of the home fans, after last night's 81-run loss to the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League at Sabina Park.

The loss condemned the Tallawahs to their fifth defeat and bottom of the standings on two points, while the win extended the Amazon Warriors unbeaten run in the tournament to five games and still top of the table with 10 points.

"Guyana got the better of us tonight and you have to give credit to them. They paced their innings very well tonight hence 220 proved to be too much for us," Walton said in his post match interview. "We lost key wickets at crucial times and Dre Russ (Andre Russell, 40 from 19 balls) tried to come in and put a good partnership with Glenn Phillips (40 from 32) but it was not enough. We have four games left and we just want to win as many as we can as we aim to get at least get into the play-offs."

Jamaican Brandon King (59 from 37), who played a wonderful innings in a winning cause for the Warriors, was happy to get his team over the line.

"It was a good feeling getting some runs on my home ground, I know this wicket very well, as I play my club cricket here. This Guyana team wants to go all the way and we aim to win all our games moving forward," said King.

The Tallawahs play their final home game against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the same venue today at 7 p.m.
