SUNDAY's Reggae 6 payout, $11,389, restored value to the popular bet after Saturday's measly $2,011, the result of four winning chalks - SUDDEN FLIGHT, TURNONTHELIGHT, PHENOMENAL POWER and DREAMER'S CORNER - leaving bettors collecting far less than their outlay.

Though Sunday's Reggae 6 had three winning favourites - UNCLE NALLY, JUSTIN BIGTIME and LION OF EKATI - NEWLAND LINKS landing the opener at 5-2 and YORKIST going gate-to-wire at 2-1 in the third jolted many bets.

Last Friday's column warned bettors to "load up on Sunday's Reggae 6 opener...quit playing vet and instead spread bets to include BLINKIN LIGHT, SUPERIO, COALITION, OKOYE WARRIOR, TUTS and NEWLAND LINKS".

Though UNCLE NALLY won the second as a 3-5 favourite in the win pool, Reggae 6 bettors, not wanting to bank a two-year-old, might have overspent on the blink sprint at four furlongs straight, limiting them in the third won by YORKIST.

CAPTAIN FANTASTIC's scratch changed the pace of the event, leaving YORKIST as the lone speed with Christopher Mamdeen.

JUSTIN BIGTIME lived up to his billing as "a worthwhile banker in the fourth at six furlongs". Punters also heeded advice to "go five deep in the fifth event - GALLOPIN DE VELOZ, HAIL THE QUEEN, J SPIETH, INDESTRUCTIBLE and MS CHERRY - before taking a chance with LION OF EKKATI as a banker in the closer".

Saturday's Reggae 6 will open at $3m for a single-winning ticket as the build-up to Boxing Day's mandatory payout builds momentum.
