STETHS, CC making way for underdogs

Despite being eliminated from the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup after a shocking 3-1 defeat by Happy Grove School, St Elizabeth Technical High School coach Omar 'Rambo' Wedderburn said they are not giving up as they can still win a trophy this season.

Saturday's defeat follows last Tuesday's 0-0 draw with B. B Coke High, left both schools from the parish of St Elizabeth on one point at the foot of the table in group four. McGrath lead the group with six points, three ahead of Happy Grove's three.

"That (don't want to go four years without a title) would be so true. We are not giving up as yet. As we all know, the daCosta Cup is out of reach for us, but, honestly, if we can get a berth in the Ben Francis or the Champions Cup would be great. We are just here hoping and praying everything goes well on Tuesday and from there give it our last shot towards a title," Wedderburn said.

"I wouldn't pinpoint anything specifically or blame anyone. I just think one of the things that we should do, we didn't but I won't say it right now. Things just blew out of our direction in the last because it was so close right up to 90 minutes," he said.

Beaten finalist

Another favourite who lost on Saturday was last season's beaten finalist Cornwall College who was outmuscled and edged 1-0 by Manchester High at STETHS Sports Complex.

"It's not a matter of looking bleak. We lost a game that we didn't play, well in because when you look at the run of play, I would say Manchester just edged it. I think it was a fair result although their goalkeeper had to come up big two or three occasions," said Cornwall's assistant coach Warren Barrett.

"Three points, we are still not out. Garvey Maceo of three and Manchester on four who are somewhat in pole position but they have to win their last game. We just need to win our last game against Maggotty as well. Hopefully, we get some goals and see how the other result goes," he added.
