Frome Technical High School head coach Renorio Downswell has described his first season at the helm as 'pretty good'. This is despite going out at the quarter-final stage of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup, Ben Francis Cup, and Champions Cup competitions.

The 2003 DaCosta Cup champions lost 2-1 to Kingston College in the Champions Cup, which followed last Wednesday's 2-1 defeat to Manchester High in the Ben Francis Cup. Two weeks ago, they finished second behind Dinthill Technical in their daCosta Cup quarter-final group.

"It's was a very young team who played well and I'm proud of them," Downswell said. "I think we just have to go back to the drawing board and come back stronger next year. We have a number of 16-year-olds to build on for next season."

Experienced players

Despite losing quite a number of experienced players, especially captain Clifton Suban, at the back, Downswell said he is confident in building their team for next season around former national under-15 forward Giovanni Mitto. The 16-year-old striker scored 20 goals this season across all competitions.

"I think by next year he should be a hundred per cent mature," Downswell said. "The team will build and play around him because he is a very good player and a motivator for the team. Having him in the squad for next year will be a plus and we are looking forward to him playing a critical role."
