Campbell putting team ahead of milestone
Jamaica Scorpions captain John Campbell has set his sights on getting results for his team rather than personal milestones as the Scorpions take on the Windward Islands Volcanoes in the seventh round of the West Indies Championship which bowls off today in Grenada.
Campbell needs just four runs to get to 3,000 Championship runs, however, the left-hander says personal milestones are secondary at the moment as the priority is to get the Scorpions back on the winning trail and up the standings.
"It would be a great achievement to get the milestone but I am not really putting that in focus, what I want to do is to try and do what is required to help the team to win," said Campbell.
The left-hander has a total of 3,798 first-class runs in 70 matches since he made his debut back in 2014.
Campbell, who has scored 360 runs in six championship games to date with a century and a half-century, is looking to continue in the positive frame of mind with four games remaining in the competition.
Getting big scores
"I think I have been batting pretty well, I have been hitting the ball well but it's just that I have not been getting big scores. I have been getting starts but I aim to get in and stay in because once I am out there the team will benefit," added Campbell.
Campbell says his unit has shrugged off the loss against the Guyana Jaguars and he is anticipating a better performance against the Windwards.
"The game against the Jaguars was a hiccup for us and the guys are confident of putting in a good performance against the Windwards. We have been batting well and the bowlers have begun to come into their own, so it's just about going out there and executing."
The Jamaica Scorpions are currently third in the six-team championship on 61.2 points, that is 4.4 points ahead of the Windward Volcanoes in fourth place.
