Francis to lead Holmwood Class Two charge
Holmwood Technical High School head coach Dave Anderson is banking on his Class One unit to lead the way in his team trying to reclaim their ISSA/GraceKenney Girls’ Championships title.
One of the athletes he is relying on to play a crucial role is Kavia Francis, who will be doing the 200 and 400 metres double. Francis will be hoping to improve on her third-place finish in the 400 metres last year, while also hoping to score good points in the 200 metres.
The former Manchester High standout, who represented Holmwood for the first time last year, is looking forward to the Championships.” I cant wait to get on the track as my preparation this year is much better than last year. I am stronger and more determined to do better this time around ,” she said.
Good replacements
Despite losing some members of last year’s Class One team, she does not see this as a problem.
“Yes, we have lost some key members from last year but we have good replacements ready to step up to the plate,”she stated.
Francis told STAR Sports that she likes the downplaying of her team chances in winning Champs this year.” Many people do not see us winning but it is good that we were not in the limelight as this surely has taken some pressure off the team. When they go to the various meets they are under less pressure in delivering and this really has been very positive for us,” she said.
Francis believes in her teammates and is confident that they can deliver on the big day. “ We are a determined bunch and we are highly motivated and once we step up to the plate, I see no reason why we can’t win the Championships”, she said.
