Supreme Ventures threaten to punish breachers of COVID-19 protocols

Following the eviction of two patrons from last Sunday's race meet, Lorna Gooden, general manager of Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) has warned that anyone who breaches COVID 19 protocols at the racetrack at Caymanas Park will be removed from the property.

Gooden told STAR Sports that her organisation is also planning to install extra security personnel for this weekend's two-day race meet. A veteran jockey was among the two patrons who were removed from track after they were found to be breached of SVREL's Covid 19 health protocols last Sunday.

Strict Approach

"We are going to take a strict approach to the adherence to the rules because we can't afford for there to be a shut-down of the industry," said Gooden.

"My words to the patrons are that this is for the benefit of the entire ecosystem and the entire industry and so we just need to do our path and fellow the protocols that have been put in place at the race track," she said.

"Apart from the evictions on Sunday, things have been good so far, but we can't get complacent because we have to follow the government guidelines that have been put in place," Gooden noted.

She noted that St Catherine has been the epic centre of COVID 19 pandemic in Jamaica with 312 confirmed cases of the virus in Jamaica. Caymanas Park is located in Gregory Park.

"It is the parish with the largest number of known effective cases and so if we don't protect ourselves here what is going to happen, the virus will spread and we don't want that to happen," Gooden said.

"We want everybody to wear the mask and keep the social distances. No gathering and keep your six feet apart whenever you are in the line," she said. "We are going to have our usual security contingent and we are contemplating whether we need to engage the police this weekend.
