Tivoli Gardens midfielder Jermaine 'Teddy' Johnson was among three persons who were shot yesterday evening in Central Kingston.

According to multiple reports, Johnson was among a group who were fired upon by some men who drove up beside them after the General Election polls were closed.

Johnson was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he is currently being treated. Head coach of Tivoli Gardens FC, Phillip Williams, said that he received the news through club president Dawn Heron and that a member of the coaching staff visited the player in the hospital.

"We are just waiting to see how bad it is," Williams told STAR Sports.

Calls to Herron were unsuccessful at press time.

The 40-year-old Johnson finished his fifth Red Stripe Premier League season this year in his second stint with Tivoli Gardens. The season was cancelled in May because of the coronavirus pandemic. He said previously that despite getting on in years, he would be available for another season with the club should his body allows.

Johnson made 74 appearances for the senior national team scoring 11 times. His playing career spans two decades. He has played overseas in England and the United States.
