Jamaican fast bowler Marquino Mindley says he will continue to put in the work despite not getting selected for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh.

After fast bowler Romario Shepherd pulled out due to contracting the coronavirus, Mindley was hoping he would get the nod as the replacement. Instead, the West Indies selectors opted for Barbadian Keon Harding in the One-Day squad.

For Mindley, not getting that vital call was a double blow, this after he was also snubbed for the recent tour of New Zealand, which featured an extended Test squad of 21 players.

The St Elizabeth native could not hold back his disappointment, but says he will be putting in extra work to make sure that his numbers shine bright next time around in the eyes of the selectors.

"I went to England and did well picking up some wickets in the inter-squad matches, and I was hoping to make the trip to New Zealand, but the selectors told me they were taking some of the youngsters for development. I have performed over and over, and all I can do is to continue putting in the work and hope that one day it will pay off," said Mindley.

8TH BEST BOWLER

The 26-year-old swing bowler was the 8 best in last year's West Indies Championship, where he picked up 24 wickets in six games for Jamaica.

To date, Mindley has only gotten a taste of international action for the West Indies 'A' team, where he played in three-day games against Australia in 2015, and India in 2016 and 2019.

Already, the Black River native is setting his sights on putting in additional work for the upcoming Super 50 and regional four-day championships.

"All I can do is to continue to get wickets and maybe add a bit more pace to my armoury. I will be aiming to get the most wickets or come in the top five in the four-day and the 50-over [games], just continue to pick up wickets," he added.
