Defending ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' Athletics Champions Kingston College (KC) suffered a major setback in their bid to retain their title when Class One 110 hurdles favourite Vashaun Vascianna picked up an injury yesterday.

Vascianna did not finish his semifinal heat because of an injury he picked up after going over the second hurdle. The former St Jago High School athlete who transferred to KC's sixth form in September was not registered for the 100m sprint, but was down to participate in the 4x100m relay. This now looks unlikely.

"Vashaun has gone to see the doctor but it is unlikely he will compete in the relay," KC head coach Leaford Grant told STAR Sports yesterday.

Grant says however that nothing has changed in his team's bid to retain the Mortimer Geddes Trophy.

"This is a championships and these things do happen, but we are still confident as the other guys are still doing well as we have a lot of athletes advancing to the next round of their event," he said.
