Just like last year, Dunbeholden have their Jamaica Premier League play-off destiny in their hands, and, according to manager Paul Christie, they are ready to seize an opportunity two years in the making.

The St Catherine-based club will face Mount Pleasant Academy in the second game of a triple-header today at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence at 1 p.m. Dunbeholden are currently holding on to sixth place, the last play-off spot. They have 14 points, a point ahead of defending champions Portmore United as well as two points clear of Harbour View who are looking to pip them at the finish line.

Getting to the play-offs was in doubt when they started with two defeats in this truncated season. However, manager Paul Christie says that having their future in their hands is something that they relish in this regular-season finale.

"We wouldn't want it any other way. One game to decide your fate. You have your own fate in your hands. If you want to win, whoever the opponents are, you have to just go out and do just that. And that is the scenario that is facing us and we are preparing the best way we can," Christie told STAR Sports.

Play-off place

Mount Pleasant, who are in fourth place with 15 points, could secure their play-off place with at least a point. It is an occasion that would usually warrant all games being played at the same time, however, with the restrictions and playing in a central area, the Dunbeholden result could hold the key to whether Harbour View still have a chance to qualify before their match against Arnett Gardens at 3:30 p.m.

Christie says that while acknowledging the unusual circumstances, they do not take for granted the work done to even have a season.

"This is far from an ideal situation. We just feel happy to know that we can play football and go out there and represent the best way we can and live with the results," Christie said. The Dunbeholden manager said a play-off berth would mean a lot to the community especially given how close they were last year.

Portmore United face Waterhouse in the first game of the triple header at 10 a.m.
