Williams was the find of the tour – Walsh

West Indies Women's coach Courtney Walsh says Jamaican batter Rashada Williams was the highlight and find of the recently concluded tour by South Africa to the Caribbean.

Williams, who came into the One Day set- up following a drawn T20 series, led all scorers for the regional side with 157 runs at an impressive average of 78.50 in three matches with an unbeaten half-century to go with those impressive numbers.

In the third ODI, Williams made 37 before top-scoring in the fourth match with 42 and again led all scorers with 78 not out in the final ODI.

The right-handed opener has earned high praises from the coaching staff who said the rookie showed great maturity during the ODI series, which the West Indies lost 4-1.

"Rashada has done everything right. We are very happy about her performance, and she has put her name amid everything come selection time. She has outscored everyone in the three games and has played the role that we wanted her to play and has done it consistently," said Walsh.

Apart from Williams, only Deandra Dottin showed a glimpse of her batting talent with 139 runs in five matches with a top score of 71.

With captain and main batter Stafanie Taylor absent from the series, no other player scored over 100 runs in the series, and with that fact, coach Walsh is concerned, with World Cup qualifiers on the horizon.

Not been consistent

"The batters have not been consistent, and that is one of the things we have to address. When you look at the statistics, there are a few ladies who haven't been producing, and that cannot continue," added Walsh.

Walsh said he would be pushing for the team to improve on their mental health as well as their physical well-being to improve the performance of the team.

"We have one more camp to address everything to try and get everybody on the same page to know that they have to produce."

On the bowling side, it was the rookies who also outshone their more senior counterparts in the ODI series. Left-arm spinner Qiana Joseph led the wickets with five scalps in four matches while off-spinner Sheneta Grimmond bagged four wickets in two games.
