Olympic and World Championships sprint medallist, Shericka Jackson, expressed gratitude after being unveiled as Scotiabank's first brand ambassador in the financial company's 132-year history yesterday.

The three-year deal also represents the first local endorsement for the star Jamaica athlete, and was announced in a ceremony at their headquarters, which is located in downtown Kingston.

"This is my first local contract and for Scotiabank to choose me I'm just grateful. I am happy," said Jackson, a member of the MVP Track Club.

After a 2021 season in which she won Olympic 100m bronze at the Tokyo Games, in her first season running the event, as well as gold as a member of Jamaica's victorious 4x100m relay team, Jackson said that she is humbled at Scotiabank's faith in her.

"I have known for some time and I just could not wait for everybody to know. I am so grateful and I just want to say again, thank you," the multi-talented sprinter expressed.

Scotiabank President and CEO, Audrey Tugwell-Henry, said that her accomplishments in her first competitive season in the 100 and 200 metres, as well as the athlete's strong character, made her the ideal choice.

"It was fairly easy for us when we we looked at what happened at the Tokyo Games when Shericka was the real MVP. Shericka stepped up. She decided to do the 100m and 200m and not only did she do very well, but she also extended herself and she rose like a phoenix," Tugwell-Henry highlighted.

"Shericka's humility, her discipline, her commitment to excellence are all the reasons why we chose her," the Scotiabank CEO added.

Her deal comes months before the 2022 World Athletic Championships in Eugene, Oregon in her second full season running the shorter sprints. While not surprised at her ability, which led to her superb performances last season, Jackson says that she is hoping that she remains injury free as she puts her immediate focus on the indoor season.

"Training has been going well. It's just taking a step at a time and continuing to stay healthy. Once I am healthy I am OK. I'm just going there to give my best," Jackson said.
