JPL Best and Worst Week 11
Best
Dunbeholden
Few would have given Dunbeholden any chance to have this great of a start to the 2022 season. Any expectations that they did have of themselves this year, they have done well so far to surpass them after one round of games. They have won eight games in 11 matches this season, more than they have had in a first-round since gaining promotion in 2018. Atapharoy Bygrave is the golden boot leader with nine goals this season. And even in his absence, Dunbeholden ground out a 1-0 win over Harbour View to jump over Waterhouse and become the new league leaders with 29 points. It is hard to ignore their emerging status as title contenders.
Arnett Gardens
Since their opening defeat to Cavalier in January, Arnett Gardens have been difficult to stop. Their unbeaten streak is now at 10 games after their narrow 1-0 over previous leaders Waterhouse last Monday, the first Monday Night fixture since the pandemic. Head coach Paul Davis is enjoying his return to the club as they are now in second place with 28 points, one point away from leaders Dunbeholden. The turnaround may not have been expected to come so quickly, but their title intentions are clear, which will make stopping them a hard task indeed.
Molynes United
Wins for Molynes have been few and far between this season. But the Garnett Lawrence-coached squad managed to register back-to-back victories for the first time this season, after beating Humble Lion 2-1 last Monday. They have vaulted themselves to ninth place in the league with 10 points, and are not as close to the bottom of the table as they were a week ago. Mathematically, they are not off the pace of the play-off places, but they need to show more in the second round to prove that they have the fortitude to challenge for the top six.
Worst
Mount Pleasant
Wins have been hard to come by lately for Mount Pleasant. They are winless in their last five games and after their 2-0 defeat to Portmore United at Drax Hall, their home support was left far from pleased with their performances. Head coach Walter Downes has asked fans to stick by them, but they have to improve to avoid angering them further.
Tivoli Gardens
A decent first half by Tivoli Gardens against Cavalier was overshadowed by a second half to forget. Head coach Philip Williams lamented his team's indecisions in the final third but also the unforced errors that led to their 3-1 defeat by Cavalier last Saturday. They will need another second half of the season comeback to give themselves a chance at making the play-offs. Although they still have a game in hand to capitalise on, they cannot afford to make elementary mistakes if they want to make it in the top six.
Humble Lion
Humble Lion head coach Andrew Price rued the chances that his team missed in their 2-1 defeat to Molynes United. His third season so far is starting to resemble last year's struggles in their truncated campaign. Humble Lion have 11 games to try to turn their season around and force themselves into the play-off conversation or there will be more pressure on Price regarding his future with the club.
