Gianni Henry forever grateful to KC
Kingston College (KC) track team co-captain Gianni Henry says he and his twin Giovouni will be forever indebted to KC for their personal, academic, and athletic growth.
KC celebrated its 33rd ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' Athletics Championships title with the student body and faculty yesterday at its North Street campus.
Henry claimed the 2000m Steeplechase title last Friday, his first gold at Champs, in his final year at the school. Additionally, in the classroom, Gianni passed 12 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) subjects and Giovouni passed eight subjects.
"To end my athletic career at Kingston College with a victory is a wonderful feeling," Gianni said. "KC has ensured that all its athletes have done well both on the field and in the classroom. The team has been working tirelessly throughout the season. We deserve this victory."
It is a legacy that he hopes will continue after he graduates, especially with those who will be chosen as future captains. His message to them is to ensure that they maintain the high standards that are expected of them.
"This is KC, keep your head high and focus," he said. "This is a tradition. Just do what you have to do both on track and academically."
While Henry was relishing his swansong, co-captain Bouwahgjie Nkrumie said that their title win completed a mission that started when they watched Jamaica College lift the title last year.
"It's a very special feeling knowing that last year was very emotional because we didn't win," he said. "But this year, we came with a vengeance and we did it!"
