Best and Worst JPL Week 21
Best
Renaldo Cephas
Arnett Gardens' Renaldo Cephas continued to be the thorn in the side for West Kingston rivals Tivoli Gardens. He scored in their 2-0 win in March and his double on Sunday secured a 3-1 in their return leg on Sunday. Not only did Arnett secure the season series sweep, but they have put themselves in a good position as they fine-tune their preparations for the play-offs.
Phillon Lawrence
Harbour View's Phillon Lawrence caused problems for Montego Bay United, and his two-goal performance helped his team to a 4-0 win and moves them into sixth place with 27 points. They now have control over their play-off destiny. Lawrence had the pick of the goals with a curling drive in the 47th minute which gave the Montego Bay goalkeeper no chance. By the time they play their regular-season finale against Dunbeholden on Sunday, they could have already clinched a play-off spot, or would only need a positive result to do so.
Worst
Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant will have to take the long road towards the title, as their 3-1 defeat to Cavalier saw their slim chance of a top-two finish fade away. Their previous four-game unbeaten spell gave them the chance to put themselves in a great position to do so, but fell at a crucial hurdle. What they can do is ensure that they prepare for the first round with a win in their regular-season finale.
Dunbeholden
The regular-season title is all but out of the reach for Dunbeholden after their 3-1 defeat to Humble Lion. The team is missing the influence of their head coach Harold Thomas, who is yet to return to the sidelines, and the recent robbery at the club, leaving players unpaid, has not helped the situation. They are in patchy form going into the play-offs, having won two of their last five games.
