WESTERN BUREAU:

Coaches of Garvey Maceo High and Cornwall College are finding it difficult to motivate the players for their Ben Francis Cup knockout first-round match at 3 this afternoon at Garvey Maceo.

Both also agree that they have something to salvage with the Ben Francis Cup, which has had a change in format in recent years.

"Two former champions meeting up with a whole heap of history, however, the real pressure for us is to get these boys back up after the disappointment of dropping out of the big one. It's a tough job to push them, but I find that they are in good spirits," Gordon said.

Dr Dean Weatherly, coach of Cornwall College, believes they are motivated not to end the season empty-handed as well as this could be a good stepping stone for the big titles next season.

"In the beginning it was a bit difficult in motivating them for this competition but now they realise what is at stake and who their opponents are. It is 12 of the top 16 teams (in the daCosta Cup) we are playing. This is the business end of the season irrespective of where you have fallen," Weatherly said.
