Windies Women stumble against England
West Indies Women suffered an eight-wicket loss to their English counterparts in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket match in Antigua last night.
West Indies were whitewashed 3-0 by England in the one-day international (ODI) and were expected to put up a sterner fight in more familiar territory in the T20I series, but this failed to materialise.
Asked to take the first strike, Windies Women limped to 106 for seven in their allotted 20 overs with the Jamaican pair of Rashada Williams and Chinelle Henry getting the most runs with 23 and 21, respectively.
Williams faced 26 balls and hit two fours before she was run out by Danni Wyatt in the 13th over. Henry, batting at No 7, hit three fours in her 34-ball unbeaten knock.
Seamer Lauren Bell bagged three wickets for England: Aaliyah Alleyne for two, Shemaine Campbelle for 10 and Shabika Gajnabi for 13.
In reply, England Women made light work of the run chase by scoring 106 for two in 12.4 overs.
Opener Wyatt scored an unbeaten 59 from 34 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Her opening partner Sophia Dunkley chipped in with 25 from 21 balls while Lauren Winfield-Hill made 15 before she became the second of two runouts for the Guyanese Campbelle.
