With Humble Lion in a stronger position compared to their early struggles last season, they will hope that their final Jamaica Premier League game of 2022 will show their improvement as well as make an early case for their chances at the playoffs when they face Tivoli Gardens (TG) at the Effortville Community Centre at 3 p.m.

The Clarendon-based Humble Lion are currently in sixth place with 10 points after six games, an improvement from last season's slow start where it took nine weeks for them to win their first game of the season. This year it only took them three and are currently riding a two-game winning streak which has included wins over Montego Bay United and Arnett Gardens, the latter courtesy of a free kick by captain Andrew Vanzie.

Having struggled since the return of the league in 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Vanzie said that he has seen improvement from his team this season which has been critical to their success.

"Since COVID-19 started this has been one of our best seasons. I just told the boys to mentally and physically prepare for the game and we just want to give thanks for the three points against Arnett Gardens," Vanzie said after that 1-0 win last week, their first game since returning from the World Cup break.

Humble Lion have won three of their last four games, putting them within striking distance of the top four. Although pleased with their resurgence, Vanzie cautioned that they cannot afford a drop in performance.

"We know we had the holidays but I told the boys that there is no break for us. We just have to continue working, take it one day at a time and build the momentum and build the team energy."

Winless in four games, Tivoli Gardens will hope that they can gain some confidence heading into the new year. It has been almost two months since registering their first win of the season, when they dispatched Chapelton Maroons on October 31. Diego McKenzie has been leading the goal-scoring efforts for Tivoli with three goals for the season so far. It is almost the same inconsistent start to last season being played out this year, having only won one game in their first six matches.
