Admittedly, he may not be the player he once was, but Arnett Gardens captain Fabian Reid showed signs of his dangerous quality, a trait that he hopes will see his club achieve consistency in their chase for the Jamaica Premier League title this season.

Reid, 31, helped his team deliver the signature win of the season so far on Monday night, defeating league leaders Mount Pleasant Academy 3-2 in their fixture at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Reid opened the scoring with a brilliant strike in the 26th minute which nestled in the roof of the net past the outstretched arms of Mount Pleasant goalkeeper Tafari Chambers and goals from Damari Deacon three minutes into first-half stoppage time and Ajuma Johnson in the 57th minute held back a second half fight back from Mount Pleasant who had a brace from Trivante Stewart in the 50th and 95th minutes.

In a season where it has he had to pick his moments, Reid said that he still has the quality left despite his advancing years.

"To give me that space is dangerous. Beause this is still Fabian Reid. I still live up to my name. Even though I am not as good I was in the past, if you give me chances like that I will take them," Reid said.

After finishing 2022 inconsistently with a difficult return from the World Cup break, Arnett Gardens have started 2023 strongly with back-to-back wins. Spearheading a team that has title aspirations, Reid said that it's his responsibility as captain to lead the line and ensure that his team are more defensively sound.

"I told the guys that with my way of attacking I am going to give you goals. The only thing we have to take care of is the defensive line and the coach says that we just need to go out there and play football. We are the team that everybody wants to beat, no matter who people are saying the big teams are," Reid said.

Head coach Paul Davis says that Reid he is still looking "as sharp as ever" crediting his performance as well and believing that the team has another gear to hit this season.

Arnett are now in third place with 17 points, three points away from Mount Pleasant who still lead the league with 20 points.
