JPL BEST AND WORST WEEK 10

BEST

HUMBLE LION

Humble Lion responded to their 2-1 loss to Cavalier last week by making quick work of their parish rivals Chapelton Maroons 3-0, putting themselves in fourth place with 17 points. Humble Lion have now won four of their last six games and the struggles of the last two seasons have since been a distant memory. In his third full season at the Clarendon-based club, Andrew Price may have found his winning formula as the first round of games come to a close.

TIVOLI GARDENS

After an eight-match winless run, Tivoli Gardens got a much-needed boost after registering a 1-0 win over Waterhouse Monday night. It is only their second win of the season and their first since October 30. It has been a struggle for the West Kingston-based club since the latter part of last year, but having scored their first victory of the year and are unbeaten in back-to-back games, the result is a step in the right direction to get themselves further above safety.

MONTEGO BAY UNITED

A derby game with strugglers Faulkland FC last weekend turned out to be just what the doctor ordered for Montego Bay United. Their 1-0 win ended a five-match winless streak, which has put them back on track and a point closer to the top six. They are now on 15 points, tied with Dunbeholden and Portmore United, and if they can maintain their defensive identity, they will be formidable for the rest of the regular season.

CAVALIER

There is a new team atop the Jamaica Premier League standings. Cavalier, with 22 points, overtook Mount Pleasant in the table after their 2-1 win over Portmore and Mount Pleasant, with 21, dropping points on Monday. Collin Anderson's ninth goal of the season in that game was the game-winner and has him as the league's joint-top scorer with Mount Pleasant's Trivante Stewart. They have won four of their last five games.

WORST

CHAPELTON MAROONS

It was not enough that Chapelton Maroons lost their parish derby to Humble Lion but they will be searching for a new coach to lead them. Lenworth Hyde, who helped them to earn promotion last season, is the first coaching casualty, with his sacking coming in the aftermath of that defeat. Chapelton Maroons are currently in 12th place with eight points, one above the relegation places.

FAULKLAND

Unless something changes with players or coaching soon, Faulkland's stay in the league will be brief. Their 1-0 derby defeat to Montego Bay United is their eighth this season and there are no signs that they can recover. Either they get very active in the transfer window or it might be time for a new coach to lead them or both.

PORTMORE UNITED

Portmore United's defence could not keep out the likes of Cavalier's Ronaldo Webster or Collin Anderson who were both on the score sheet in their 2-1 win last Sunday, ending Portmore's position as the last undefeated participants. While the result will be disappointing, the broader picture remains positive for them in their first year under head coach Philip Williams, who currently has them battling for a playoff spot with the first round coming to a close.
