Anderson provides victory for Cavalier

The Rudolph Speid-coached Cavalier ended a two-game winless run last night by defeating Vere United 1-0 as round 15 of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) was concluded at the Ashenheim Stadium.
Cavalier looked the better of both teams for the duration of the fixture with the winning strike coming from the laces of Colin Anderson in the 70th minute, as he neatly slotted home his effort from close range.
Cavalier earlier in the fixture missed the opportunity to covert following Dwayne 'Busy' Atkinson's effort, which skied over the bar from inside the box in the 24th minute. Seven minutes later, Christopher Ainsworth's chance also went close, ricocheting from the upright into space.
Vere's offensive struggles continued with the defeat, as they have now only registered four goals from their 15 matches. This is their fifth defeat of the season.
Jermaine Douglas, assistant coach of Vere, believes his players are lacking confidence, which is impacting their offence.
"In the second half, we really came into our own, but a lapse in concentration cost us the goal. What we saw in the last 25 minutes was what we wanted for the entire game. I thought we created enough opportunities, especially in the latter stages to have at least a point.
"It's now about getting the team mentally ready and taking responsibility in front of the goal and I think now we are just not brave enough," Douglas stated.
His counterpart Rudolph Speid heaped praises on Vere's defence, which he contends his players had difficulties breaking down. He was, however, proud that Anderson was back on the goal-scoring chart, with his 10th of the season.
"We did get a lot of opportunities but it was difficult to break down Vere's defence. I think we are getting enough chances. I think it's just for us now to work on that part. I think Colin has been silent for about four to five games and this will make him get more confidence," Speid said.
