Denham Town drub Tivoli 6-1 in schoolgirls’ football

The Delano Campbell-coached Denham Town High maintained their unbeaten streak in the ISSA Tip Friendly Society schoolgirls football season as they eased past neighbours Tivoli High 6-1 at the Tivoli Gardens school ground yesterday.
Denham Town opened their account in the eighth minute from a composed finish by Kayesha Sibbles. In the 23rd minute Tivoli went 2-0 down as the silky dribbling skills of Richana Barrett proved too much for Tivoli's defenders. Despite not playing at her home ground, the brilliance of Natoya Atkinson was acknowledged by the Tivoli faithfuls as her torment of defenders began in the 30th minute when she scored the first of four goals. Atkinson's torment continued in the 38th, 72nd and 78th minutes as she completed her four-timer, on each occasion dribbling past multiple defenders.
Tivoli, who created several chances, received a consolation goal in the 55th minute from Sarah Haughton. It was Tivoli's third group-stage defeat.
Head coach of Tivoli, Kevin McDermott, believes his charges will get better if they put more into their game.
"They've not been training, but they did their best. I have four players who are playing football for the first time, so I'm not too disappointed and it's a work in progress. We have to work on more shooting in training. Most of the girls aren't really keen on training but as soon as I can get them loving the game, then we'll see better results," he stated.
Winning coach Delano Campbell said the derby fixture was enough to get the girls in the right frame of mind to produce their best performance.
"Is a derby game so the result is very pleasing for us but we have a lot of work that we need to do. Given the occasion and who we were playing against, we knew the Tivoli team isn't strong so we wanted to play better football. Most of the girls are first-timers so I can't be more pleased to remain unbeaten with Camperdown High left to play," Campbell said.
Campbell praised Atkinson for her outstanding display.
"We pick the games that we want her to play specific roles and of course she does that very well," Campbell said.
