Brown wants to do more to help Vere

Vere United's struggles in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) and in front of goal have been well documented this season. In 18 matches, the Clarendon-based Vere have found the net only five times and registered just two wins.
Javier Brown was a big part of their season last term, scoring four of their 12 goals as they finished ninth in the points standing under coach Donovan Duckie.
The 26-year-old attacking midfielder, however, has failed to get on the scoresheet so far this season, and he conceded he should be doing more to help them.
"This (season) is a building process and there are youths coming into the team and we have to work with the youths while we are trying to get it right.
"So it is a process and we are trying to go in the right direction. But I think I should be contributing more, based on (the performance) last season and where I left off," Brown said.
Vere sit 12th in the 14-team league and, although they are five points clear of Faulkland in the relegation zone, Brown insists they are neither focusing on relegation nor top-six qualification for the next phase of the competition, but are taking it game by game and trying to maximise results.
"We are not dwelling on fighting relegation or going to the top six. When the games come, we will handle it, but our ambition is not to be down there, it is to compete and try to be in the top six.
"In the rest of the season, we want to maximise on our chances, getting points on the road or at home or wherever we play, and try to move away from the relegation zone," he said.
Vere are on a four-match losing run and will face Montego Bay United this weekend with new Brazilian coach Neider dos Santos.
Brown pointed out that the difficulties of their season have affected their resolve, but they remain resolute and focus on getting it right each game.
"Things like these can break anyone's confidence and (you may) not have the confidence you need to go in the game.
"In the previous season, we have been able to compete against the bigger teams and get maximum points. We know what our situation is that we are not doing very well, but the coaches are giving us the instructions and we are working each day to make it better," Brown said.
