Harbour View stop Cavalier 2-1 to move closer to JPL’s top

Harbour View took a step closer to securing one of the top two Jamaica Premier League (JPL) play-off spots, after an enthralling 2-1 win over Cavalier at the Ashenheim Stadium last night.

Demar Rose fired Harbour View ahead after 23 minutes but Dwayne Atkinson equalised for Cavalier in the 48th minute, however, Oshane Staple, who provided the assist for Rose's opener, stole the win for Harbour View with a 59th-minute header.

Harbour View's coach Ludlow Bernard said the win pushed them into the place they desire after moving to third on goal difference in the standings on 36 points, similar to Mount Pleasant.

"It was a very tough game and a very difficult team to play against. If you are not properly positioned to deal with those launches that Cavalier were making, they can really hurt you. I can understand why they scored a lot of goals. So it was very good that defensively we got organised," Bernard said.

He was also pleased with the resolve to recover and get the three points, noting that they failed in similar situations this season.

"I am very satisfied we scored even after they tied the game. I am pleased with that response. We have drawn a lot of games, and it was really important to get that go-ahead goal, but you not only want to position yourself for the playoffs but also for Concacaf qualification," he added.

Rose fired Harbour View in front after Cavalier's defence failed to clear Staple's low cross.

Atkinson equalised just after the break as he scored from the rebound of his penalty that goalkeeper Anthony Bennett saved.

Cavalier thought they went in front when Kyle Ming planted a header past Bennett, but a foul was called on Bennett.

However, Staple capped off a good Harbour View display when super-sub Christojaye Daley's corner was turned home by Staple at the near post.

Cavalier's coach Rudolph Speid thought poor officiating cost him a result.

"I thought there were calls in crucial moments we didn't get, which should have gone our way, like the second goal we scored. I don't know why it was disallowed and there were other crucial calls that we didn't get," he pointed out.

"It's the story of our life. We don't seem to get them, but it's the way of life, and we have to move on. I am not perturbed. We are just three points off the lead," he said
