Bank on Rohan Kabir and Eagle One
TWO cardinal rules of racing took out most Reggae 6 players last Sunday - always play the track bias at five furlongs straight and never trust exposed maidens.
EL RAPIDO flew home from post-position eight in the fifth, drawn widest at five furlongs straight, winning at odds of 7-2, to upstage howling 2-5 favourite MOTIVATE ME BABY breaking from stall two, validating the track bias out the sprint chute.
Following EL RAPIDO's win, RIDE NATTY RIDE also made all at five furlongs straight, from mid-track, not the stands' side. Proving that a horse with superior speed can win from any draw, RIDE NATTY RIDE was fitted with blinkers and tumbled in the betting, suggesting the gamble was on with champion jockey Reyan Lewis summoned to replace claiming rider Shavon Townsend.
Most important, RIDE NATTY RIDE's almost six-length win at odds of 9-1 confirmed every handicapper's rule of thumb - give a three-year-old maiden six runs before drawing a line on ability.
Sunday's Reggae 6 closer should be similarly treated. Watch equipment and jockey changes as trainers try to get their three-year-olds off the mark at long odds.
Spread selections in the sixth event to include SHE'S ADORABLE, D BAY MACHINE, ZULU WARRIOR and SO BEAUTIFUL to close Reggae 6 bets.
Bold bankers appear to be ROHAN KABIR in the opening event and EAGLE ONE in the fifth. Tread carefully in the third and fourth, events for jockey trainees without whips.
