Cavalier seek full points, fine-tuning
Cavalier Soccer Club head coach Rudolph Speid said his team will go into today's Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football game against Racing United with two objectives, to prepare for their Caribbean Cup final against Ciboa of the Dominican Republic on Tuesday and getting much-needed points.
Cavalier are sixth on 16 points, four behind league leaders Montego Bay United and Portmore United, who are tied on 20.
"It is the last match we have to play before our final in the Caribbean Cup, so we are seeing if we can use it to work out some things," Speid said.
"We will have to play a decent game as we need the points because we will be out of competition for the next two (JPL) rounds. So we need the points and we are taking it very seriously" he said.
Racing, with two wins, two draws and five losses in nine matches, are third from bottom on eight points. They were beaten 4-0 by MoBay United on Sunday, and Donovan Lofters, Racing's assistant coach, said they must improve.
"A lot of things went wrong (Sunday); no organisation in the backline, we didn't transition well. So we have a lot of things to work on before Wednesday," he stated.
"I don't know if they (players) are demotivated or just not connecting or not communicating properly. But we will go back to the training ground to see if we can fix it because we can't play like this against Cavalier."
Despite their poor form, Speid anticipates that Racing will try to make things difficult.
"This is the first we will be playing them, so we do not really know how to assess them. But everybody plays us differently. Most times people sit behind the ball and we have to pry them open. But whatever they did against somebody else that is not what they are going to do against us. They are going to change the tactics and make it harder for us. But we need these points," he added.
