Mount Pleasant Academy FC blanked Montego Bay United FC 3-0 in their Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football match at Drax Hall Sports Complex in St Ann yesterday.

In wet, muddy conditions, Mount Pleasant's leading goalscorer Daniel Green opened the scoring in the 16th minute, and the St Ann team got additional goals from Kimani Bailey, who scored a penalty at the 48th minute, and Raheem Edwards, in the 70th.

Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore, head coach of Mount Pleasant, noted that his team had a good all-round display.

"Despite the weather conditions, I think we stood up and we won our one v one battles. We didn't give our opponents any look-in at goal today."

He added: "We executed well and kept one of the league leaders from not scoring today," he said of MoBay United, who entered the round joint leaders with Waterhouse, who are now sole leaders after their 0-0 draw with Portmore United.

MoBay United were not at their best, and failed to convert any of the few chances they managed to create.

Rodolfo Zapata, head coach of MoBay United, said the team didn't play well.

"It's simple. Mount Pleasant deserved to win. I think that the penalty kick at the beginning of the second half changed the story of the game. I need to analyse the video to see what happened and keep on working. The pitch was bad for both teams, so there are no excuses," he said.

"It is hard to make short passes and play beautiful football in this type of weather, but Mount Pleasant played better than us."
