Emperorofthecats is Sunday’s banker
IT makes absolutely no sense being trapped by Reggae 6 openers such as Sunday's optional-claiming 250,000 event for older horses at five furlongs round. The guessing game for soundness isn't worth the trouble with at least one clear banker, EMPEROROFTHECATS, with the perfect draw in the fourth event.
Course-specialist EMPEROROFTHECATS led home BRITTBRIAN EXPRESS and EAGLE ONE at the trip on last. Now perfectly drawn, widest, in the small field, EMPEROROFTHECATS should cruise the first three furlongs before pulling away on the stands' side with the track bias in his favour.
On the flip, do not play hero with the opening event. Be as safe as spending power permits, using PIP, ABSOLUTE BLUE, DONALMIGHTY, ESUSE ME GOODBY, PHENOMENAL ONE and SILVER FOX as primary cover.
The second is also tricky, three-year-old maiden fillies in December, horses about to turn four without a win under their girths. PRINCESS CATALEYA appears the obvious choice. However, she is as exposed as any in the lineup, which gives the likes of debutante KHALI RAE a chance, looking sharp at exercise.
It's hard to see a horse separating DREAM TO REALITY and INDESTRUCTIBLE in the third at four and a half furlongs straight. However, go with a quartet in the fifth - MEDAL AWARD, CLOWNING AROUND, EMPRESSINTHEBREEZE and debutant GARLAND - a tricky four-year-old maiden event at six furlongs.
Close the Reggae 6 by carrying MANOUSHE and PAPA GRAY at five furlongs round. Both have been consistent in their last two races, suggesting all-important soundness.
