Exercise caution with opening Reggae 6 races

SOUNDNESS cannot be read in form lines hence New Year's Day's Reggae 6 opener can be an 'all-button' race to ensure the first hurdle is safely navigated without regret.

Similarly, the second race, a three-year-old maiden event, ought to be approached with caution, considering the seven runners were all branded three years of age, as at midnight, despite their respective calendar birth dates.

Maidens in a blink sprint at four furlongs straight is a potential minefield, requiring a shotgun blast, runners one through five, to be ready for anything the inexperienced lot might cough up.

HANSA has worked well from the gate, 1:01.2, but appears bred-to-stay. TRIBAL CHIEF chased ENTHUSIASM on debut at a similar trip before giving way to Saturday's return winner, HONOUR PRINCE. However, MONEY MISSION galloped 35.3 from the gate, suggesting she could be a natural speedster with Blue Pepsi Lodge as her dam sire.

SENSATIONAL MOVE, returning with figure-eight fitted, should make all in the third at five and a half furlongs after disputing the lead with stablemate and runner-up, MONEY MARKET, last time out in the Bruceontheloose won by ATLANTIC CONVOY on Mouttet Mile day.

However, MILOS is super-fit and should be carried as insurance in case SENSATIONAL MOVE hasn't recovered sufficiently from cracking 59.0 while knotting up on the lead in the Bruceontheloose.

The fourth is also a bit tricky, requiring three selections to cover any eventuality. MIDNIGHT FLIGHT, FEARLESS ATTACK and MATUSO should do the trick at five furlongs straight.

It's always risky to bank low-level claimers. However, SCHLESINGER at three and a half furlongs straight, drawn widest in an 11-horse field, is too tempting to resist.

Close the year's first Reggae 6 on a winning note by using in-form runners, SIX AVENUE and PRINCE DOMINICK at seven furlongs among $350,000 claimers.
