When this year's staging of the STETHS Invitational track and field athletics meet gets underway on Saturday, it will do so under a new name.

A very popular meet on the Jamaica Administrative Athletics Association ((JAAA) calendar, the meet will now be known as the STETHS Ollivierre/Smith Invitational meet.

Principal of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and organiser of the meet Keith Wellington stated that the name has been changed in honour of two past outstanding coaches of the institution.

"Mike Ollivierre and Eldemire Smith, who passed away last year, have both served the institution as coaches for a combined period of 55 years, with Smith also serving the institution as a vice-principal before his retirement," Wellington informed.

"The day schedule will see competition in all the field events, exempting the pole vault, and on the track we will have the 100m, 400m, 1500m and 400m hurdles. In addition, we will have 4x400m and 4x800m relays where the winners will each be rewarded with $50,000," Wellington informed.

He pointed out that the winning teams will receive trophies named on behalf of both Ollivierre and Smith.

Several Olympians from the institution will also be present at three meet.

"Several past outstanding student athletes from the institution, including the likes of Winthrop Graham, Gary Samuels, Stacy Ann Williams and Bobbette Stewart will be in attendance at the meet to recognise the renaming of the meet in honour of their former coaches," Wellington informed.

Also, Paris Olympic triple jump silver medallist and RJR Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year, Shanieka Ricketts, will be the honouree.

Top high-school female team, defending ISSA champions Edwin Allen High, numbers among the participants, which includes several other top teams from rural Jamaica.
