Nunes, the trainer to watch
ANTHONY Nunes has shown his head as the trainer to watch in the Reggae 6 after PRINCE AMAAN turned tables on MACK AND ROME to win Saturday's second event at odds of 19-1, forcing a payout of $516,822.
Saturday was the second consecutive week that a Nunes runner rocked the Reggae 6. Nunes' GOLDEN SYRUP pulled off a stunning reversal of form on March 8, closing the Reggae 6 at odds of 23-1 for a $906,823 payout. Nunes, who leads champion Jason DaCosta by $1,998,900 in the trainers' stakes race, could have additional Reggae 6 fireworks up his sleeve on Saturday, starting with PERFECT AFFAIR in the opening event.
Third on debut at six and a half furlongs on February 23, PERFECT AFFAIR, a Perfect Curlin filly out of 2016 Guineas winner, Nuclear Affair, appears improved at exercise, beating Canadian MISS GROVE in a four-furlong spin.
Nunes should also be followed in the fourth event for five-year-olds, non-winners of three races. PRINCESS AKILAH, similar to GOLDEN SYRUP, could spring to life, having performed creditably at five furlongs straight in previous races against better company.
TITAN TEMPO is the only recommended banker on Saturday. The United States-bred runner should comfortably control the pace of the second event at a mile unlike his previous run when heckled by QUEEN OF SOUL and SHOOTING STAR, resulting in him being caught by IMMEASURABLE JOY at seven furlongs.
